As a choral artist, Melanie brings a rare combination of rigour, warmth, and joy to her work, inviting singers to trust themselves, one another, and the collective musical process. As Artistic Director of the Hamilton Children’s Choir, she leads an exceptional team of artistic staff and nearly 250 singers in experiences that encompass repertoire, movement, performance, touring, collaboration with peers and professionals, and the steady cultivation of confidence and agency as young artists. Highlights from her tenure with HCC include winning several prizes at the 2024 Llangollen International Choral Eisteddfod, participating in Europa Cantat Junior 2023 in Ghent, Belgium, and appearing as guest artists with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in the summer of 2025.

Originally from Nova Scotia, Melanie now proudly calls Hamilton home. In addition to her work with HCC, she is a member of the music faculty at McMaster University’s School of the Arts, where she conducts the treble and mixed-voice choral ensembles. Recent highlights include winning the Dorothy Meyer Trophy (Mixed Chorus) at the 2025 Cork International Choral Festival in Ireland, and performances with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra in 2024 and 2026.

Melanie holds a Bachelor of Music (Voice) from Dalhousie University and a Master of Music (Choral Conducting) from the University of Alberta. She is a sought-after adjudicator and clinician, having led festivals and honour choir projects across Southwestern Ontario, Alberta, and Nova Scotia, and she proudly served for several years on the executive board of Choirs Ontario.
